TO BEGIN AGAIN
Before I left California, a good friend of mine gave me a smooth stone with the words "Begin Again" engraved on it. She told me how inspiring it was for her that I was starting anew and following my heart and dream.

For several years, I have known that I wanted to start my animal care business. In California, I had one amazing experience after another -- each time I went to someone's home to help them with their animal. I assisted with medical treatments, taught families how to administer medications, supported them through a critical stage of illness, and helped them to assess severity of symptoms so they could plan a trip to their clinic - or not. Every time I left a family's home, I felt more certain than before that this was a calling I needed to heed. I began to make plans to move to Massachusetts in the summer of 2013 and started envisioning my business. I named it Road Home Animal Care.

I thought about moving to Cambridge where I lived for many years before going to Northern California in 2000. I still have close friends there and some family. But a trip to Western MA in October 2012 changed the course of my plans. I attended a dancing event in the Berkshires and it is difficult to describe what happened but I was struck with a feeling so profound that I should come here instead.

I felt close to a euphoric joy being on the land there. My friends said, "But who do you know there? How will you manage before having a job? It will be too lonely. The winters are too severe!" But I knew. I knew I should come here. So, in July 2013, I arrived with one of my daughters and my three beloved cats. I told my friends it feels a little like a self-arranged marriage. I chose this place and now we will grow to love each other over time. In fact, for so many reasons, I am thrilled to be here.
Just a little more about me. I am pictured on this page with my oldest daughter. I have a grown son in Cambridge who is one cool guy, and I adopted three daughters from China. My youngest came to the Valley with me and my two oldest are both in college. I am closely connected to China, thanks to my daughters, and I speak Mandarin. I also love dancing, biking, hiking, the ocean, lakes and mountains. Oh, and animals!! |
